Growth and Performance of Stock (Matthiola incana L.) Affected by Different Crop Residues

2015 •

Shoaib Rehman

3 Abstract: Growth and performance of stock flower was assessed on various crop residues as potting media. A pot experiment was conducted by transplanting 4 leaf stage (30 days) old seedlings on different crop residues, Silt potted as control, FYM and Silt (1:3), co*ckscomb grown residues (FYM and Silt) (1:3) and FYM and Silt (1:3) Maize (grown) crop residues as treatment. Completely Randomized Design was applied to test the significance and to compare means. All the results were statistically significant for all the parameters studied. Plant growth indices indicated that the maximum values for plant height (32.66 cm), number of branches (20.66), fresh weight (49.56 g) and dry weight (16.33 g) were found in maize crop residues. The silt and combination of Slit + FYM has little effect on all the parameters studies.

Morphological and biochemical variations induced by synergy of salicylic acid and zinc in co*ckscomb

Awais Saleem

Celosia argentea var. cristata is an edible plant mainly cultivated as an ornament for its spectacular flowering and is highly appreciated by horticulturists for its originality, unique appearance of flower and better vase life. Utilisation of plant growth regulator [salicylic acid (SA)] and mineral nutrition [zinc (Zn)] is a sustainable approach to ameliorate crop health and yield. A field experiment was performed on a randomised complete block design with 12 treatments in 36 blocks to investigate the effectiveness of the combined application of SA (50 ppm and 100 ppm) and Zn (ZnSO4: 0.5 ppm, 1.5 ppm and 2.5 ppm) as well as when each one is applied separately on vegetative, reproductive, physiochemical attributes in C. argentea var. cristata. Results analysed through Tukey's honestly significant difference (HSD) test, biplot and heat map indicated a significantly greater improvement up to 2.5 folds in the growth attributes when plants received foliar application of 100 ppm of S...

Effect of Different Crop Residues on Growth and Flowering of Dahlia Dahliahortensis under Agro-Climatic Conditions of Layyah

2014 •

Shoaib Rehman

This research was conducted to assess the growth performance of dahlia on various crop residues as potting media. Pot research was conducted by transplanting 20 days old seedlings on different crop residues, including, Silt as control, FYM+Silt (1:3), FYM+Silt (1:3) co*ckscomb and FYM+Silt (1:3) Maize crop residues as treatment. Completely Randomized Designs (RCBD) was applied to test the significance and compared means of treatments. Data was recorded for different parameters including plant height (cm), total number of leaf, total number of branches, total number of flower, fresh weight(g), dry weight (g), total bulbs, bulb diameter, flower diameter. All the results were statistically significant and the results related with plant growth indices indicated that the maximum values for plant height (39.33cm), total number leaves (53)total flowers (4.66), fresh weight(g) (76.03),dry weight (g) (14.00), bulb diameter (8.33) flower diameter (11.66) were found in slit. The combination of ...

Chemical constituents of Celosia argentea va. cristata L. plants as affected by foliar application of putrescine and alpha-tocopherol

Saady Badawy

The effect of putrescine at 50,100 and 200 ppm and alpha-tocopherol at 200, 400 and 600 ppm on chemical constituents of Celosia argentea var. cristata L. plants had been studied in pot experiment during two successive seasons (2009-2010) and (2010-2011). Data indicated that most criteria of chlorophylls, anthocyanin and total carbohydrates contents were significantly affected by the application of putrescine and alpha-tocopherol as compared with the control plants. Foliar application with 200 ppm putrescine resulted in the highest increase values in these studied characters as compared with the other treatments and the untreated plants in the two seasons of study. Spraying the plants with alpha-tocopherol at the concentration of 400 ppm resulted in the highest values as compared to the control plants in the two successive seasons.

Comparison of Impact Induced by Different Priming Techniques on Germination and Plant Development in Lisianthus ( Eustoma Grandiflorum )

2018 •

Saman Chughtai

Lisianthus (Eustoma grandiflorum) belongs to family Gentianaceae is becoming one of the most highly ranked cut flowers in international market. Lisianthus seeds exhibited cold-related dormancy and slow germination rate. Seed priming techniques have been utilized to increase germination attributes and improve germination uniformity. The present study was conducted to enhance germination uniformity and plant development in Lisianthus by using different priming techniques. The effect of different concentrations of gibberellic acid (250, 500 and 1000 ppm GA3), potassium nitrate (0.1, 0.2 and 0.3% KNO3), hydro priming (DW, CDW, WDW) and control was examined on germination and other physiological parameters. Complete Randomized Design (CRD) was used for nine treatments with five replications. Plants treated with GA3 of concenteration 1000 ppm had a positive impact on all parameters ( mean germination time, germination index, plant height, number of leaves, stem length, number of flowers, ...

Efficient micropropagation by multiple shoot induction through recurrent regeneration in Celosia cristata L

2015 •

Mrunal Warhade

An investigation was carried out to study the effect of various factors on the regeneration of Celosia cristata L. The 6-benzyladenine (BAP) was more effective than kinetin (Kn) for shoot regeneration. The presence of 2,4-dichlorophenoxy acetic acid (2,4-D) or 1-naphthalene acetic acid (NAA) at low concentration increased the number of shoots per explant. Similarly, salt and sugar composition of medium also affected the in vitro regeneration. Subculture of explants up to 8 generations remarkably increased regeneration efficiency. Up to 1,434 shoots, with an average of 239 shoots per explant, could be regenerated by subculture of the explants over the medium containing 6.6 μM BAP and 0.5 μM NAA. The induced microshoots were rooted in 1/8 MS basal medium. It was concluded that shoot tips derived from 12-d-old seedling were the best explant for micropropagation through recurrent regeneration when they were cultured over MS medium containing 0.5 μM NAA and 6.6 μM BAP.

Plants and Traditional Handicrafts on the Balkan Region

Ioana Marcela PADURE

Abstract: This study focuses on the most common plant-based traditional handicrafts in several Balkan countries (Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia, and Turkey), richness and diversity of plants used as raw, folk botanical knowledge, as well as to give impression about their contemporary state and development in study area, in relation to natural plant resources and national traditions. The study was conducted during 2006-2007 period and the gathered data are largely from literature, analyzing the findings in the existing ethnographic collections as well as field collected data and interviewed informants by nonstructured interviews. A high plant species diversity of around 120 taxa of vascular plants in study area is established, belonging to 46 families and 78 genera, including several taxa from fungi (as Fomes fomentarius). The predominant number of species is from Poaceae, Cyperaceae, Rosaceae, fa*gaceae, Betulaceae, Fabaceae, Tiliaceae, Pinaceae, Linaceae, Cannabaceae, Urticaceae. The per...
